SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a free way of getting your website, blog post or other web publication to the top of the search results through search engine optimization.
Useful regardless of the search engine, the vast majority of SEO professionals focus on Google, being the most popular. This practice is based on 3 pillars: on-page SEO ( on-page SEO), off-page SEO (off-page SEO) and technical features (technical features).
Page SEO
Page SEO refers to the actual content of your page. No matter what field you aspire to success in, it’s essential to produce content (text, visual and/or audio media) that will meet your users’ expectations. In addition to the basics of presenting your company in what it does, you need to help Google build the bridge between search and your website.
For example, a page that explains your personal story as an entrepreneur will have little (if any) influence on people’s ability to find you on the web. After all, if your background is extraordinary, potential customers still need to be able to find it in order to choose you.
Focus on effective copywriting. Always aim to answer the questions users might have, and try to imagine what they might be looking for in order to find your product. Try to find yourself or your competitors organically on Google: the words you use will be the ones that should appear on your site.
To index your page, Google uses crawlers to scan your page to determine its content. If your copywriting isn’t effective, if your headings don’t contain the keywords that speak to your subject, Google will have trouble knowing what you’re talking about: that’s not good.
Pro tip:
Once you’ve chosen your keyword, use it in several places on your site or blog post to help Google understand your subject. Caution! Don’t exceed 3% density (3 words out of 100 are your keyword), otherwise Google will know you’re over-optimizing and penalize you for SEO. What’s more, a text crammed with the same keyword is not pleasant to read for anyone.
Off-page SEO
Off-page SEO refers to aspects that are external to your site. Backlinks are the holy grail of off-page SEO. A backlink is when another page links to your site or blog post. For example, if you published a blog post about vegan blueberry pancakes and a cooking site published an article saying “hey check out this blueberry pancake recipe, it’s awesome!” with a link to your page, you’ve earned a backlink.
But it doesn’t stop there. The quality of the backlink has an influence on your SEO. In fact, the authoritativeness, expertise and credibility (this trio, called “EAT”, is also important, but if we start talking about it, we’ll be here until Christmas) of the page that gave you a backlink has a big impact. For example, if it’s Manon de Terrebonne’s blog that links to your recipe, the impact will be less than if it’s the official site of Ricardo.
Pro tip:
Manon de Terrebonne may have less authority, expertise and credibility than Ricardo, but she’s still got it! Don’t be discouraged if your backlinks aren’t concrete. In fact, for SMEs, these little backlinks are goldmines because they have authority in their niche and audience. Don’t neglect them!
- Interests: What type of content do you interact with?
- Relationships: Who do you interact with most?
- Moments of interaction: When are you most active on the platform?
- Frequency: Are you often online in the evening? Do you publish more often on weekends?
- The following: What types of accounts do you follow? Which accounts do you follow?
- Its use: Do you often publish in stories, or rather in static publications? Do you often send private messages?
“With these factors in mind, it may be possible for the user to observe their behavior on Instagram and influence what type of content may be offered to them on the platform.”
Instagram is a platform not to be underestimated when it comes to making your presence felt on the web. In addition to being free, it allows you to use your creativity while achieving your goals, both for web creators and for companies of any notoriety. However, managing it properly can be time-consuming.
